Safis Web, Pashto language and the critics

It appears to me that Pashto is not an independant language but just a bi-language to Dari. Today's Afghanistan is a Dari dominated country, Pashtuns simply can't find thier representatives in any field. His highness the King Zahir Shah is a Pashtun but speaks Dari and Italian. The president is a Pashtun but he makes the National Day speech in Dari. The cabinet ministers are Pashtuns but they communicate in Dari since Pashto is alien to many officers and government officials.

In such a situation it is very obvious that a site with only Pashto music would irritate many and I would say shock plenty of people. But it should not!

There are newspapers, news agencies and websites that are entirely based on Dari. On the contrary, it is almost impossible for a Pashto newspaper or magazine or any media source to exclude Dari. Why? well, because it is the way it's always been in Afghanistan and why should anybody dare change the course of history anyway?

Safis Web has been made in an effort to contribute to the language of Pashto, it is the main goal of our site. This should however never mean that we are discriminating other languages and ethnic groups of Afghanistan. If you see our "Profile of the Week" section, you will find articles on Ahmad Shah Masood, Dostum, Rabbani, Hammasa Kohistani, Dr. Sima Samar, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and many more. In fact, half of the profiles belong to Afghan ethnic groups other than Pashtun.

In addition to this, we have neutral and objective articles on Uzbeks, Tajiks and Hazaras. This gives us every reason to reject racist accusations with full confidence.
